About MacGen

This is a newly formed society with interest in both the Macintosh computer platform and genealogy. It will concentrate on the Macintosh computer as a tool used for Genealogy. The group will also focus on the Reunion genealogy lineage program used specifically on the Macintosh computer and the iTouch/iPhone/iPad computing devices.

Our first meeting was on April 25, 2009 at the Oakland, California LDS Regional Family History Center Conference Room. Topics are very focused, ast we are interested in our computing platform of the Mac and Genealogy topics. Most members belong to local genealogy societies and/or Macintosh computer user groups. We think there is enough interest in this some what unique set of topics, that it will attract many members over a period of time. We do recommend membership in genealogy societies and computer user groups to provide additional support.

The society held monthly meetings in Oakland most months of 2009 and 2010, skipping meetings when the Family History Center is closed. We meet with a General Meeting on the fourth Saturday of the month at 1:30pm and hold an informal workshop on the 2nd Wednesday of the month at 7pm. Organizing and conducting meetings are three volunteers, Ed Mason, Rich Peterson and Bill George. All three have many years experience running computer groups and genealogy societies.

Membership is free for the Wednesday and Saturday meetings. You are allowed to join at the time you first attend a meeting.

In September, 2010, we added a third monthly meeting, associated with the San Ramon Valley Genealogical Society (SRVGS). We meet on Wednesday mornings the day after their third-Tuesday General meeting, at 10:30 am in the Danville Family History Center, 2949 Stone Valley Rd, Alamo, California. You are encouraged to join SRVGS as this is also SRVGS' meeting location. The San Ramon Valley Genealogical Society recently celebrated their 25th year of operation, and has many sources of information and inspiration for genealogists and family historians. Please review their web site for more infomation at http://www.srvgensoc.org.
