February, 2012 MacGen Meetings

This should be a great session, focusing on how to make a great chart. Reunion has an object menu to give many choices when editing your chart. The term object usually refers to photos that are dragged on to charts, but it also includes special shapes and text boxes on the chart. They can be manipulated extensively to produce stunning effects. Examples are (1) Grouping pictures; (2) Layering pictures (3) Shape Backgrounds (4) Picture frames and much more.

Other Bay Area Macintosh Genealogy Meetings

Another East Bay Mac resource is the Diablo Valley Macintosh User Group of Walnut Creek. Past President Verner Laursen runs a Genealogy Special Interest Group that meets at 10am on the fourth Wednesday of the month at DVMUG's office,at 396 Civic Drive, Pleasant Hill, CA. .

A free weekly Macintosh Class occurs In Alameda, at the Alameda Free Library (1550 Oak St, Alameda, CA 94501) on Fridays from 10 am -12 noon. Professor Marvin Winzenread presents different Macintosh computer topics in some depth and documents the sessions on his website, http://winzenread.com/MUG/. Even if you think you know a topic, expect to be surprised at additional features you never knew about. Send an email to mug@winzenread.com to join the mailing list and receive announcements of upcoming free classes.

A Macintosh Special Interest Group occurs monthly, In Santa Clara, hosted by Silicon Valley Computer Genealogy Group (SVCGG). It is a large (100+ people) meeting on the 2nd Saturday of the month from 9-11am and one of the sub groups is the Mac Group that meets the same day. This Mac Group is headed by Pat Burrow, their endlessly resourceful and energetic leader. Pat has visited and presented to Oakland MacGen in the past as have we, to the SVCGG group (see my presentation notes). The SVCGG group meets from 9am to 11am at the Family History Center in Santa Clara, on the 2nd Saturday of each month at 875 Quince Ave., Santa Clara, Calif. 95051. Pat posts very helpful notes of her meetings at http://www.reunionnotes.com

This MacGen Society is not affiliated with Leister Productions, Apple Inc. or FamilySearch.org, hosted by the Church of Latter Day Saints. MacGen is supported entirely by volunteers as a not-for-profit educational experience.

We do however, thank the Oakland Regional Family History Center for their never-ending help with genealogy activities and use of their conference room and equipment. To see other educational activities of their Oakland Regional Family History Center please review their Web Site and click on Activity Calendar.
